Calvert County Council of PTAs

PTA. Every child. One Voice.

CCCPTA, What is it?

I am often asked, “What is the CCCPTA and what does it do?”

PTA (Parent Teacher Association) helps parents get involved in their children’s education.  It  operates at the national, state, county and local levels.  The Calvert County Council of PTAs is the umbrella organization for all PTAs and PTSAs (Parent Teacher Student Associations)  in our county.

The PTA motto is “every child, one voice.”  A primary function of the CCCPTA is advocacy for children at the county level.  When I speak to the Board of Education as president of CCCPTA, I represent over 6300 PTA members of Calvert County. CCCPTA provides resources, training and support to all PTAs in the county and represents PTA at various community organizations.  When the superintendent of our schools wants parent input on any issue or plan, he turns to CCCPTA. Additionally, CCCPTA holds the Summer Camps and Jobs Fair every March.  The event is a community service -  a one stop shop for parents investigating Summer Camp opportunities and for older students looking for paid and volunteer summer jobs at camps.  This year’s Fair will be held at Calvert High School on March 13, 2008, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

It pays to be a member of PTA in Calvert County.  CCCPTA has negotiated with area businesses to give discounts to county PTA members when members show their current membership card.

In PTA’s Reflections cultural arts program, we showcase student artwork and refer the best to Maryland PTA for further recognition.  Last year, two county students advanced to National PTA. Here are some ways to become involved with CCCPTA:

  • Join PTA.  Contact me at tracy_maggie@comcast.net to become a member of the nation’s largest child advocacy organization and enjoy its many benefits, including merchant discounts.
  • Tell your PTA’s council representative about a concern that you have that impacts our county schools.  Examples include HSAs, No Child Left Behind, funding for schools, bullying.  What action would you like CCCPTA to take?
  • Volunteer as your PTA’s council representative.  We welcome new talent and ideas at CCCPTA.
  • Attend any of our meetings, held the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the Board of Education Building in Prince Frederick.

Our children thank you for your involvement and support of PTA!
